Microsoft® FrontPage is a web page/html editor that allows even inexperienced computer users to create web pages that are professional looking.  Microsoft® FrontPage can be purchased in an office suit with other interchangeable programs or purchased separately as a standalone program.  FrontPage 2002 is the most recent version as of this date. If you want to create a web page using FrontPage and are not familiar to it, or not familiar to the latest version of FrontPage then you may follow these simple steps to web site publishing.

Start by clicking “New Office Document” in the start menu.  Depending on what options that were installed in Microsoft® Office you will see several different tabs.  Click on the “Web Pages” tab and you should see an icon appear called “Web Page Wizard”.  Highlight the icon and press ok and the wizard should open.  If no icon or tab is present then some components of Microsoft® Office are missing or not installed.

The Web Page Wizard helps create a multi-page web site complete with navigation and a professionally designed web page theme.  Click next or click on the "Title and Location" button.  This is where you would name your web site and select the directory where you want the web site to be stored locally.  The title appears at the top of the website, in the Favorites/Bookmarks menu, and in the title bar of the web page browser.  When you’re done click next to proceed to navigation.  This allows you to change how others view links to other pages or web sites.  The next section is about how many links or pages you would like to have in your web site.  In "Current pages in Web site" their is a page called Personal Web Page.  This is the main page.  It is the first page opened when people view your web site and is not recommended that you remove it.  Any additional blank pages are optional.  You may add a page that you may of created with another html editing program by clicking on add existing file.  The Organize Pages section is about what order you would like to have the hyperlinks in.  You can also rename the pages here according to what you would like to view them as hyperlinks.  The last section is the visual theme.  These themes were made by the developers of Microsoft® Office.  If you do not select a theme your web site will have a white background and have black text.  You may add or change a theme any time by clicking on the Format menu and clicking on Themes or Backgrounds.  After you click next the basic outline for your website is finished.  FrontPage will now open the web page so you may customize it as you wish.  If you would like to insert a picture click on the Insert menu and click on Picture.  You can also insert additional hyperlinks from the Insert menu as well.

Now that the web site is complete you will need to upload it to a web host.  Companies will host your web site for a fee depending on what company you choose.  Their are some free web hosts available but may require you to advertise for them on your website and they might not allow some services such as your own domain (your_name.com) or a secure server for password transactions.  You can upload your web site in FrontPage by clicking on the File menu and clicking on publish web.  Type the web hosts address (your_name.com) and click next.  You may be prompted for a user name and password.  Next specify the pages you want to publish.  Be sure to check the box “Include subwebs” or some pages may not appear correctly.  The final step is to click Publish.  FrontPage publishes your web site to the Web server you specified. If you want to verify that your web site was successfully published, click the hyperlink that is displayed after the web has been published; your web browser will open to the site you just published.  At this point people will be able to view your web site remotely from their computers.

FrontPage can be an important tool in web site publishing.  It’s easy to use and reliable.  More information on Microsoft® FrontPage can be found on the web at http://www.Microsoft.com under their knowledge base.
