The Time Traveler In 1895, H.G. Wells published his award winning book, “The Time Machine”. All of Well’s life, he struggled with the thought of the world eventually coming to an end. He wrote a book on a man, The Time traveler, who built a time machine to take him into the future. The Time traveler took himself into the future only to find a split in human civilization. He found that the human species had evolved into two different classes. H.G. Wells develops a pessimistic view about these two different cultures. The first species that the Time traveler encountered was the one called Eloi. He found that they ate only fruit. They were also not the smarter of the two subspecies. H.G. Wells has pondered the thought of when and how the world is going to come to an end. He sent the Time traveler into the future after he found his time machine. When he did so, he ended up discovering what seemed to be the end of human kind. The only living species that the time traveler describes to still be alive at this time was some sort of a crab. Once this had startled the time traveler, he quickly pulled the lever on the time machine to return to the past. Finally, Well’s outlook on the human kind splitting into two different species gave him a pessimistic outlook or opinion towards human life. He made the time traveler feel as though he should have been disgusted with the way that civilization turned out. The traveler was surprised to see that humans were not intelligent enough to keep their species alive and functioning. Altogether, Wells seemed to have a bad opinion about the future for humans but he would never have lived to see whether his pessimistic opinion was correct or not. As far as I’m concerned, I think that this is where the road ends for humans. I don’t think we will evolve at all or separate into other species. I feel as though H.G. Wells should have had more of an optimistic view about human civilization and world concerns.
