Students in New York State must take and pass many standardized tests.  These long and difficult tests include Regents exams, Regents competency test, and English Language Art.  Some students do not do as well as expected on these exams.  Lack of Motivation, pressure to pass, and a loss of focus may cause students to do badly on these tests.  Students that can not pay attention in their classes or during the test have a difficult time doing well.

One reason students seem to not perform well is because they become distracted.  The problems students have in their lives can directly affect their thinking process.  A personal crisis on the day of the test or during the school year can cause problems preparing for or completing the exams.  Family issues, relationship concerns, and outside responsibilities are all situations that can result in a student losing focus on the exams.  When students lose focus, they lose interest in doing well on the exams.

After students lose interest, they will often do poorly on the tests.  There are many reasons why students do not care about these exams. Some may feel that the test is too difficult.  Some may simply dislike school.  Others may care too much about the test and become so nerves that they lose points.  Students that have these problems may be pressured too much by adults that they may start felling these ways.

Other reasons students do poorly is a desire to pass the exams.  Adult figures may be the cause of this need to pass.  They may edge them on with “your sister did this, so should you” comments.  They may also get a prize for doing well from there parents.  They may feel that they need this prize so much it may cause problems for the student.  There may be other people such as brothers and sisters that can cause trouble.  The siblings may say that they are better than the student.  This may make student feel that he or she must prove themselves to the sibling.  These are reasons why students become pressured to pass.

All of these reasons and examples are part of the poor scores on the standardized tests.  Distractions, interest, and pressure are all reasons for these tribulations.  These are the best explanations that can be given.  So in the end we all have learned something.  Weather it is a good thing to learn or a bad thing is up to you.
