Proud to be an American
I am an American citizen and very proud to be one. I live in the United States and throughout the past few months I have really started to understand how united we really are. We have freedom and love in our country. We have love for our country and for other people. I do not think I would ever live anywhere else besides here. I enjoy many things about this country. My favorite part is the fact that we have freedom. They do not allow some women in countries to walk outside without a man with them. I like that freedom, to be able to come and go as I please, by myself. People in some countries are looked down on because they do not have certain things or own a certain amount of land etc. . All people are treated equal in the United States. We all have the same laws to follow and no one is treated higher than someone else. Laws also protect us as members of the country. They keep people under control so they cannot just do what they want. Also, at the age of eighteen you can vote and decide whom you want to run your country. I like the fact that we are basically in charge of who is running our country. The right to a trial is also important. If you are blamed for something but never did it, hopefully that trial will show that and they will not send you to jail for no reason. We as Americans have the right of free speech. We can say what is on our minds and no one can out us down for it. To me patriotism is expressing the love you have for your country. Showing how proud you are of your country and standing up for it. On September eleventh, I thought it was so amazing how people all over the world, not just in New York or not just in the United States, hung up flags, banners, and posters in side and outside of their homes. People burned candles and prayed for everyone in our country. It was wonderful to see how much everyone reached out when something so terrible happened. I just wish we would always be this close. You would have thought that since this terrorism happened in New York, no one else would worry about it. That=s wrong though, people not only from New York and the United States showed their love and honor for their country and fellow Americans, but people from other countries and cities helped and gave us confidence that it would all be alright. To me, being an American is about unity and love. Love for each other and love for your country, but also for people who live in other countries who will help you through thick and thin. You should love your country because one day you never know would could happen to it. Just like the day of September eleventh. Always make friends not enemies and stick close by to your neighbors.
