Students in New York State must
take and pass many standardized tests. These long difficult tests, include
Regents, Rcts, and ELA. Some students do not do as well as expected on these
exams. Lack of motivation, pressure to pass, and a loss of focus may cause
students to do badly on these tests. Students that can not pay attention in
their classes or during the test have a difficult time doing well.
One reason students seem to not
perform well is because they become distracted. The problems students have in
their lives can directly effect their thinking process. A personal crisis on the
day of the test or during the school year can cause problems preparing for or
completing the exam. Family issues, relationship concerns, and outside
responsibilities are all situations that can result in a student losing focus on
an exam. When students lose focus, they lose interest in doing well on the
exams.
When a student loses interest in
doing well their grades on the test might go down. This is caused by a few
things. The student might not like school. The student could feel incompetent in
the subject the test is on. They could also not care about how they do on tests.
When students lose interest, it could be causes by pressure for them to pass.
As pressure comes for a student to do
well, the student might become uninterested in passing the test. Pressure like
this could come from a parent or a peer. When the pressure to do well becomes so
great a student could focus and become distracted.
Students in New York State are
required to take standardized test periodically throughout their educational
careers. Many students fail to pass these tests because of pressure to do well.
This could also be from distractions. It could also be because of a loss of
interest in the subject matter of the test.
