Dan’s Top Five Running Backs

       There have been many arguments over who are the top five running backs today. The fact is there are five guys who do their job better than anyone else. These guys are: Marshall Faulk, Edgerrin James, Fred Taylor, Tiki Barber, & Michael Bennett. When looking at skill, durability, & statistics, these five stood out from among the rest of the running backs in the NFL.

       After only one year as a starter at Wisconsin in collage, Michael Bennett replaces the retired Robert Smith in the offensive dynamo of The Minnesota Vikings. He has super-fast speed & has the uncanny ability to break tackles. He has the capability of being an elite running back but is ranked fifth because he is young and inexperienced. Another who uses his speed is Tiki Barber.

       Tiki Barber has just recently come into his own. He uses his speed & small size to his advantage by blasting past defenses and squeezes through tackles. He gained 1000+ yards rushing & caught 700 receiving. He splits time with Ron Dayne in a mediocre offense points wise. He plays with Kerry Collins at quarterback & Amani Toomer & Ike Hilliard at receivers. Another guy who uses his size and speed to his advantage is Fred Taylor.

       While he has been injured the past two seasons, Fred Taylor can still play with the best of them. He uses his size and speed to dominate opposing defenses by breaking tackles and by running with power. He plays in a potent offense with Mark Brunell at quarterback & the receiving tandem of Jimmy Smith, & Keenan McCardell. Another fast running back is Edgerrin James.

       Edgerrin James combines size & skill with running power to lead the league the last two seasons in rushing. He plays in an explosive offense with Peyton Manning at quarterback, & Marvin Harrison, who, these three, make up Indianapolis’ dynamic trio. James is ranked second because he shows determination & has the skills to make plays and break tackles. Another guy who makes plays is Marshall Faulk.

       Marshall Faulk is the best running back playing the game right now. He combines the ability to run with the ball & run after catching the ball. He has amazing speed and incredible endurance. He ran for 1000+ yards & caught for 800+ yards. He plays with the best offense in the league. He is the best pass catching running back next to Larry Centers of the Buffalo Bills. He plays with quarterback Kurt Warner, who is one of the best quarterbacks in the league & Isaac Bruce and Tory Holt who are great receivers.
